Wine in Ventura County - Really? (Part I)

Yes folks, there is wine in Ventura County! One of the many undiscovered gems of the "805", is the Ventura County Wine Trail. The next time you find yourself in the Camarillo area, stop in and visit Cantara Cellars. I mention this one first because you might find yours truly "The 805 Girl" behind the tasting room counter on any given weekend - ever pursuing additonal wine industry knowledge. Cantara's owners, husband and wife team, Mike and Chris Brown produce an award-winning selection of red and white wines. Their winery specializes in producing wines made from grapes sourced from the Lodi Appellation in northern California. Stop-in and check it out!

Let the blogs begin!

So this is a bit new for me, but long overdue. I have been telling myself for a long time now that I just need to sit down and start writing!

The 805 Girl will give me a chance to expound upon things that I think are relevant – food, wine and life in general. As you might have already guessed, life in general takes place for me in what I refer to lovingly as the “805”, or Ventura County for those of you who are not already familiar with the part of Southern California covered by the 805 area code.

The 805 Girl will be updated weekly (possibly more, if I have interesting news), and will always have something useful. What could be useful? How about suggestions and opinions on enjoying food and wine in the 805? Or what about recipes? As one of my favorite bloggers [Joy the Baker] says “I’m a self taught/family taught…”/ fly by the seat of my taste buds cook and baker.
Yes, I am one of those strange anomalies who loves to cook AND bake. I hope to take you along with me on my adventures in the kitchen, as well as learn some new ideas from you!
You will also read about the delightful wines that are being created in the 805 as well. I am a blossoming oenophile, soaking up all there is to know about wine in this area and points beyond.

Hopefully, there will be a little something for everyone, and if nothing else, it gives me a place where I can share my voice about the good life in the 805.
